One-of-a-kind festival takes place annualy in the Town of Razgrad - the Festival of Bulgarian Yoghurt. Visiting this unique event you will experience a true celebration: it is not just presenting different types and variations of yoghurt but a real feast for local people and numerous visitors. And even gastronomes will be impressed by the way how one’s well being is being taken care of - with plenty of delicious and appetisingly national and local specialties!

   

Yoghurt Fair - sample itinerary - arrival  in Sofia     

     

Day 1. Arrival

Arrival at Sofia Airport. The guests will be welcomed by a professional tour guide. Transfer to the hotel. Sightseeing tour of Sofia - see the St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the Church of St. Sofia, the Russian Church of St. Nicolas, the 4th century Rotunda of St. George and a part of the remainders of the old Roman settlement. Dinner and overnight Sofia.

 

Day 2. Sofia - Arbanassi-Veliko Turnovo-Shoumen

After breakfast the journey continues  to the old museum town Arbanassi - a monument of Bulgarian architecture from the 17th-18th century featuring interesting ethnographic houses, old churches and monasteries. Lunch. Visit  the old royal capital of  Veliko Turnovo, known in history as one of the most beautiful towns after Constantinople. See the Medieval Fortress of Tsarevets with the relics of the former king’s palace and the reconstructed patriarchal church. Continue to the town of Shoumen. Dinner and overnight in Shoumen.

 

Day 3. Bulgarian Yoghurt Fair in Razgrad

After breakfast we will take you to the town of Razgrad known as the “yoghurt capital” of Bulgaria to participate in the unique Bulgarian Yoghurt Fair and the National Traditional and Art Crafts Festival. You will enjoy an rich programme:  show of traditional Bulgarian customs, folklore dance programmes from different parts of the world, funny carnival, “yoghurt-queen” election and many other attractions. The Fair is a paradise for gastronomes: rich tastings on the yoghurt exhibition, tastings of delicious and appetisingly national and regional  specialties: various types of home-made yoghurt, cheese, salads, pastries, bread, cakes, cookies…Dinner and overnight in Shoumen.

 

Day 4. Madara Horseman, monument “Founders of Bulgaria”, Kabiyuk, Youghurt Fair

After breakfast drive to the surroundings of Shoumen to visit to the monumental complex “Founders of Bulgaria” and then the rock relief  “The Madara Horseman” (UNESCO site). Enjoy the visitor’s program in the oldest stud farm in the country – Kabiyuk, situated nearby Shoumen. Lunch and continue to Razgrad to enjoy the second day of the Yoghurt Fair. Dinner and overnight in Shoumen.

 

Day 5. Thracian Tomb of Sveshtari, Youghurt Fair

After breakfast the journey will take you to the North West to visit the Thracian tomb of Sveshtari (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage) dating from the first half of the 3rd century B.C. Lunch and continue to Razgrad to enjoy the third day of the Yoghurt Fair. Dinner and overnight in Shoumen.

 

Day 6. Varna, The Stone Forest, Aladzha Rock Monastery

A whole day journey to the “sea capital” Varna, the major sity on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Enroute visit to the natural phenomenon “Stone Forest" nearby Varna. Sightseeing tour of Varna including the Museum of History, the Cathedral and the remainders of the Roman Thermae. Lunch. Continue to see the Aladzha rock monastery situated in the natural park of Golden Sands. Overnight in Shoumen.

 

Day 7. Chateau Windy Hills wine tasting, Kazanlak, Sofia

After breakfast leave Shoumen and drive through the Balkan gorges to the town of Sliven, known as the ‘town of the blue mountains’. Enjoy a wine tasting with lunch in Chateau Windy Hills, known for small series of quality red wines(Caberne Sauvignon, Merlot und Sira) and young wines representing the ‘new style’ in wine creation. The journey continues to the Valley of the Roses. Break in Kazanlak to see the Thracian Tomb (UNESCO site) and time for shopping of rose products. Drive to Sofia. Dinner and overnight in Sofia.

 

Day 8. Departure

Depending on the flight schedule the tour of Sofia can take place on this day. Transfer to Sofia airport.
