Music and magic in Sofia

ITINERARY

 

Day 1. Arrival

Arrival at Sofia Airport. You will be welcomed by a professional tour guide. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Sofia.

 

Day 2. Sofia sightseeing, opera/concert

Sightseeing tour of Sofia - see the St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the Church of St. Sofia, the Russian Church of St. Nicolas, the 4th century Rotunda of St. George and a part of the remainders of the old Roman settlement. A visit to the valuable icon exhibition in the crypt of the Cathedral. Lunch. Drive to the Kremikovtsi Monastery. Overnight in Sofia.

In the evening: Opera/ Concert according to seasonal programme

 

Day 3. Sofia & vicinity, Show in the Magic Theatre

Drive to the Vitosha mountains to visit the Dragalevtsi Monastery and Kopitoto (Coffee break) from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view on the capital city. A visit to the Boyana Church (World Heritage Site) known for its valuable frescoes from the 10th-11th and 13th century which are counted among the master pieces of mediaeval European painting art. A visit to the National Museum of History. In the afternoon: time at leasure. Overnight in Sofia.

In the Evening: Dinner & Show in the restaurant “Magic Theatre”

 

Day 4. A day at leisure

A day to discover Sofia and the vicinity on your own or take one of our optional day tours and packages. Overnight in Sofia.

 

Day 5. Departure

Depending on flight schedule spare time in Sofia downtown. Transfer to the Sofia airport.

Rila Monastery

A whole day trip to the Rila Monastery (UNESCO Heritage) - a must-see for Bulgaria visitors. The monastery in the heart of the majestic Rila Mountains is a significant age-old guard of the Bulgarian spirit and culture. Enjoy the original architecture and breathtaking murals, exceptionally valuable icons and superb woodcuts. Visit the monumental monastery church, the museum which presents the monastery’s history and hosts the Raphael’s Cross - an unique work of art, and see the old monastery kitchen with huge cooking vessels. Lunch in the vicinity.

 

Old Plovdiv & Bachkovo Monastery

A whole day trip to the major city of the Thracian Valley and the second largest Bulgarian monastery. Walking tour of unique Old Plovdiv with romantic atmosphere and beautiful old houses. See the Ethnographic Museum, the Church of St. Konstantin and Helena and the Roman Theatre (2nd century AC). Lunch. Leave the city and drive through the gorges of the Rhodope Mountains to visit Batschkovo. Explore the treasures of the monastery with wondrous 17th century frescoes in the church and the refectory. See the Ossuary-the only building of its type preserved on the peninsula.

 

Koprivstitsa

A whole day trip to the architectural reserve Koprivshtitsa to engulf in the atmosphere of the Bulgarian National Revival. A walking tours in the narrow cobbled streets - visit the old houses and enjoy the calmness of the town and the beautiful surroundings. Lunch in a traditional restaurant.

 

Kazanluk

A whole day trip to the town of Kazanluk - known as the capital of the Rose Valley. Trace the Thracian culture by visiting the Thracian Tomb in Kazanluk (4th century BC, UNESCO World Cultural Heritage) and the  newly discovered tomb “Golyama Kosmatka”(Seuthes III.).  A visit to the Ethnographic complex and to the Museum of Roses. Lunch in a picnic-restaurant. Continue to the Shipka village to see the Russian Church.

 

Monasteries in the Balkan gorges

A journey of a whole day through the gorges of the Balkan Range to discover the hidden  picturesque monasteries Strupez, Tschrepisch and Sedemte Prestola which were important educational and cultural centers in the past. See the unique church in “Sedemte Prestola” - the only in Bulgaria with 7 altars. Lunch in a rustic tavern.

 

Folkstyle evening out

Spend a pleasant evening in a traditional restaurant - taste the delicious local dishes accompanied by good quality wines and enjoy the folklore programme.

 

Romantic Evening

Enjoy a romantic evening starting with a bunch of fresh flowers delivered to your hotel and a tea ceremony in a cozy tea bar. Enjoy a romantic candle light dinner accompanied by selected wines.
